All praise belongs to Allah, and may Allah elevate the status of Prophet Muhammad, his righteous family, and esteemed companions.
Unveiling the Truth About Adam
The quest for understanding the origins of humanity is a topic that resonates deeply with many. Across various cultures, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds, people have sought explanations. However, amidst the array of stories and theories, nothing can supplant the truth. In the Qur’an, Allah provides us with insights into the origin of humans, and Prophet Muhammad, in turn, elucidated this matter to his companions, who passed it down through generations until it reached us today.
According to the Qur’anic narrative, Allah created all forms of existence before humanity, over a period of six metaphorical days, each akin to a thousand years. On the last segment of the sixth day, after the afternoon prayer on Friday, Adam was created. Contrary to misconceptions, Adam did not evolve from apes or similar creatures; rather, he emerged from clay, specifically a blend of various soils from Earth, mixed with the water of Paradise.
Before Adam's clay form was transformed into flesh, blood, and bones, and before his soul was infused into his body, the angelic entity Iblis, then a believer dwelling in Paradise alongside the angels, inspected this creation. Recognizing the inherent needs of this new creation, Iblis questioned its purpose, marking the onset of his defiance against Allah's command.
قالا ربنا ظلمنا أنفسنا وإن لم تغفر لنا وترحمنا لنكونن من الخاسرين
Allah, we did injustice to ourselves. So if You do not forgive us and You do not have mercy on us, we would be losers. They repented and Allah accepted their repentance.
Once Adam's soul inhabited his earthly vessel, he expressed gratitude to Allah, marking the commencement of human speech. Adam and his wife, Hawwa’ (Eve), resided in Paradise for a duration, granted the freedom to enjoy its bounties save for one forbidden tree. Influenced by Iblis, they transgressed, but swiftly repented, acknowledging their wrongdoing.
Consequently, they were expelled from Paradise, with Adam descending to a land believed to be modern-day India, while Hawwa’ descended elsewhere. Adam later received prophethood, becoming the first prophet and messenger of Allah. He and Hawwa’ had numerous offspring, establishing the lineage of humanity. Adam instructed his descendants in matters of faith, ethics, and livelihood, and his legacy endured through generations.
Warnings Against Misconceptions
Amidst various claims contrary to Islamic truths, it is essential to reject notions such as Adam being preceded by other creations or the Prophet Muhammad being the initial creation. Similarly, assertions regarding the Prophet's primordial light lack authentic basis. Fabricated narrations must be discerned from genuine sources, as exemplified by the distorted hadith regarding the Prophet's alleged address to Jabir.
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إن كُنتُمْ فى رَيْبٍ مّـِنَ الْبَعْثِ فَإنَّـا خَلَقْنَاكُم مّـِن تُرَابٍ
Additionally, theories positing human descent from apes or portraying Adam as a primitive figure must be dismissed. Adam was the first human, chosen by Allah to receive divine guidance and impart wisdom to humanity. His creation from soil underscores Allah's power to resurrect mankind, reaffirming faith in the Hereafter.
